This web site tells some of the story of Hampton upon Thames: a riverside habitation with over a thousand years of history.
It looks at Hampton past and present, at some of its famous buildings, at some of its famous (and infamous) residents, and at some of the features of Hampton’s life today and yesterday,
from the ancient church and its oldest houses to the Nurserylands and the latest supermarket.
It is sponsored by The Hampton Riverside Trust and The Hampton Society and written by their members.
Its launch in 2006 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of The Hampton Society as the Residents Association in 1956.
The Hampton Riverside Trust was founded in 1996 when it seemed that the future of the ancient ferry was in danger. 2007 is the year that witnesses the beginning of the restoration of Bell Hill, the old riverside centre of the village and the home of the ferry.
This website was produced by John Inglis as part of the Hampton Online collection of community websites.
